More and more companies like Akimbo Systems Inc. are announcing that they will begin offering video-on-demand assets to personal computer users on a pay-per-view rather than subscription basis.
Some companies are also planning to let consumers burn TV shows, movies, and videos onto recordable DVDs that will then play on standard DVD players as well as PCs with DVD players.
Pay per view on the Internet is possible due to high-speed broadband connections such as DSL and cable technology. Users user provided software to select, manage, and work with a download feature option. And PPV users can begin to watch movies and videos before the download has completed, which they call "streaming".
As the growing list of companies who make their content available over the Internet using either rental or download-to-own models many companies are becoming is known for providing more aggregated content. This new content comprises network programs and specialty content, for Home Internet and satellite TV services combined.
It's clear that the owner of Pay Per View Internet will be positioned to own the market by having the main site that people go to, or by establishing a portal site for all types of pay per view content on the web.
